What dogs need every day
Body
A good dog can hold their bladder to injury. The American Kennel Club says grown dogs shouldn’t wait much more than 6 to 8 hours for a bathroom break, and puppies need one much sooner.1 Holding it for hours and hours raises the risk of a bladder infection.2 With 4 legs, dogs need twice the exercise humans do. It shows: vets found 59% of the dogs they checked were overweight.3 A daily walk helps with both.
Mind
Dogs explore the world with their noses. In one study, dogs that were allowed to sniff and search acted more upbeat than dogs that simply walked at heel.4 Dogs need friends, too. Researchers found that play helps dogs build strong bodies and strong friendships.5
