Walking Miss Maisy

The first walk alone with a dog is always exciting, because it’s full of unknowns. For example, it was unknown (I had forgotten) which door to use, and used all the wrong ones first. I also wasn’t sure how Maisy would react – excitement, fear, hostility? – or if she’d even remember me. I certainly didn’t expect feigned disinterest. “Oh, hi. Whatever. I’m lying here on the cool 2nd floor landing, and I’m good.” We took some time getting reacquainted, but until I put her lead on her she had no interest in moving. Then, instantly, up and in the lead to the door. Of course it was already gross and muggy out, and she felt it. We sauntered around one way, then another, and she took care of business right away. Aside from a wayward sniff of the car, that’s all she was up for in this heat. We headed back and played and posed for a little bit. She had a long drink of water and then plopped. She was done. That’s not to say she wasn’t super sweet and affectionate throughout. She’s just remarkably chill and mellow and I’m here for it. I’ll see if I can make up some time with her tomorrow; if not, we’ll switch her to quick visits and it will cost less!
