Sammy’s very good day

Sammy had no idea why he woke up in a good mood on Friday, but he had a sense that something had been promised to him for today. It seemed to start similar enough – breakfast (he didn’t notice the pill that smelled like treats stuffed into his wet food) and a stroll. But something felt different. He felt lighter, and more free. Some weight had literally been lifted off his shoulders with a lighter retractable leash. He realized he could range a little more than usual, and take the few extra moments to sniff everything. He jogged. He RAN joyfully. It was indeed a very good day. But he had no idea.

When lunch rolled around, he was looking forward to another stroll with a bit of leeway, but when the people came, they took him right into a CAR! He hunkered down, unsure of where, but car was fun. He arrived at Westville Dam, where he got to meet a great dam, a gorgeous Great Dane named Koda. Koda was young and full of energy. She towered over him, weighed easily 4x as much, and she could put his entire head in her mouth without stretching much. But she was eagern and friendly and Sammy conquered any fears he had to accompany her on the walk. They met a friendly maintenance man in a golf cart, but he gave them both treats, so that wasn’t scary. The weather and park were beautiful, and both cried when they had to part at the end.

Exhausted from the adventure Sammy slept like a log, and when dinner time came, he was still too tired to eat or walk too much. But his strength and appetite returned in full force by the evening visit, and his late dinner was just as delicious. But when it came time for a walk, he was surprised to be joined by another beauty, though far more diminutive. Mindy is a tiny white Morkie, and Sammy was equally enchanted with her. Mindy was more relaxed than Koda, focusing on all the smells of the unfamiliar neighborhood. Sammy played it cool, showing her the nice spots. They too both cried when the walk ended. With a final round of treats, Sammy settled in to sleep, and dream about his very good so fun day.
