I don’t know what you’re doing on your vacation, but it’s possible Sammy is having a better time than you. When people think of pet-sitting, they think feed, water, walk. Maybe medicine. Maybe give them a treat and play with them? That sounds like taking good care of a pet while you’re away, right? But we’re not called Lindsay Cares for Pets. We’re called Lindsay Loves Pets, so what we call pet-sitting may be a little different. We’re “pet-sitting” Sammy, but his life feels a bit more like an episode of the bachelor. After a morning visit for a gourmet breakfast, smartly hidden medicine, and a walk, his lunch visit was a short walk (it was too hot!) and playing fetch with his toys in the cool basement. At 4, a limo (well, my SUV) showed up to take Sammy for a fun ride to a date with Holly, the 3rd new girl dog he’s met in a week. They strolled together around the Common as the sun was setting, surrounded by cameras and tasty snacks. They flirted, pretending to ignore each other while leaving each other sniff notes. But in the end Sammy was more interested in getting back in the car than in Holly. And when you’re Sammy, what you want is what you get. Rather than take him home, I decided to take him along to do some Door Dash. For about an hour he got to sniff the world at large with his face out the window, and delight in the wonderful smells of take-out. There was some fuss when he realized we had to give the food to someone else, but he took it in stride after all. He came home in the evening and finally ate his dinner from before. Before 10 I stopped by again to let him out and for night-time cuddles. So… feed, water, walk? Yep, we do that. It’s just that when Lindsay Loves Pets does pet-sitting, there may not be that much… sitting.
