Koda See, Koda Do

With the heat wave still lingering, I thought I’d take Koda to Leadmine today so she could play in the water. She didn’t want to get in the car at first, but once I got in the back seat, she quickly followed and happily got buckled in. She enjoyed the air conditioned ride, but we were both panting by the time we got out in the parking lot. It was definitely hot for her on the way in, but she wanted to linger at every little plant and stump. There was plenty of shade, and very peaceful with nobody around. We got to the lagoon, and Koda was more than happy to get her feet wet. She thirstily lapped at the water, and jumped at every little thing that moved or sparkled (and once at a rock that must have stood still weirdly). But she definitely didn’t want to go in and cool off. She went up and down the beach, but it wasn’t until I was looking at the pictures later that I realized not only was she seeing her shadow, but also her reflection. No wonder she was alarmed. But just like with the car, I knew that if I lead she would follow, so I waded in up to about my knees. Koda followed. Once she was a little deeper, she no longer saw her reflection and I could see realization on her face. She definitely wanted to think (and drink!) more, but our time was up, and we headed back. She was a doll on the ride back, and thanked me profusely with licks and hugs when we got home. We’ll definitely do that again!

Chime In!
