Consequences To Conscience

The remote controller for Jaspers collar has made a huge difference in our relationship. The controller means he has to accept that actions have consequences, and that his giant size and gaping maw are no match for a little yellow box. When he gets a zap he shakes his head like a horse swatting off to flies. But that reminder to “pay attention” takes all the fun out of being a brat for him. I almost never actually zap him – he just needs to be reminded of the yellow box. Greeting was a 40 second affair and that was with others in the room. He’s no angel but he’s no dummy either. 😆 And so he was, nearly perfect, on our walk, when I observed something interesting. He wanted to dash away when he saw another dog at one point, then thought better of it and came to me. And right before that he shook his head, like a horse buzzing off flies, except my hand was nowhere near the buzzer. He responded to what he expected, a preemptive understanding of the negative consequences without any guidance. So, as Jasper grows, learns, and matures, don’t be surprised to see a little cricket with a top hat sitting on his shoulder. Jasper is developing a conscience! 🥰
