Maddie did not seem to anxious or stressed at all on her first overnight here. It’s amazing how resilient kids are. There was food, water, a comfy couch, and tons of toys. There were walks and hugs and games, so while she misses you, she hasn’t had much time to really think about it. We’ve discovered how amazingly smart she is and how well she communicates. When she wanted me to turn on (or turn off) the TV, she brought me the remote. When she needed to go outside, she brought me my shoe. Sure, she likes to play games with giving it back sometimes, but mostly she’s actually quite good about just sending the message. At night we took her to our bedroom. She wanted to snuggle in bed but like any kid at a sleepover she had trouble settling down. Finally we brought the pen up and put her in there for the night and she settled down right away. And the morning she went out, and ate her breakfast in under a minute. We even had a chance to head out to the common to sniff the morning air, heavy with wet spring. Maddie is a very good girl, especially for the equivalent of a human seven-year-old. We love having her here!
